Prince Charming

| Posted on Monday, Jul. 21, 2008 at 5:33 PM

I'm sure all you city people are familiar with mX. Basically it's a free daily newspaper handed out by people who stand in front of railway stations approximately about 4PM onwards. Having being repetitively at the city for 4 days in a row (recently)- mX became sort of like... our best friend. There was this one particular article about how women are more picky than men when it comes to love.

It made me think when I got home (I know I'm so gay). The article said that most women's ideal men are unrealistic. Well... What has influenced our expectations of the opposite sex when it comes to love? I thought back to the first time I was exposed much to the male species in a romantic way. And that was fairytale stories. I think the typical ones would be- Snow White and Rapunzel that I read back in the days. There's something in common with both of them. The handsome prince is the solution of the complications (the spells) in the stories. Typically he kisses the princess, she awakes then they ride on the back of his horse back to his castle to live happily ever after.

The prince being the solution to the complications- sort of seems like females rely on them to find true and never ending happiness. And the fact that he's a prince- he's got to have the riches, nice looking face, tall with a nice physique and definitely romantic. Sometimes I wish I was a fairytale character.

I think women actually become pickier as they date other people. You'd point out their flaws and tell yourself you're never dating a person who does this or that. e.g. If my ex-boyfriend was very gaseous, I would never want to date someone with a lot of gas ever again.

And the article was so right! Women have a mental list of what they want their ideal man to be. But it wouldn't hurt to date an almost perfect (ideal) guy.

Now... my ideal guy must be brunette with hazel eyes, preferably Euro. Tall- about 170cm+. Smart, doesn't smoke, can keep interesting conversations going, optimistic, doesn't gamble, doesn't use illegal drugs, outgoing and good taste in clothing. Oh, I also want a guy who is willing to show me the world, teach me new things and show me things I've never seen before. It keeps the relationship more interesting and adventurous. And that's not too much to ask for. Right? LOL, I know he does exist damnit.

And don't bring my hopes down.

I'd love for a guy to comment and tell me their ideal woman!

Think like an Artist

| Posted on Friday, Jul. 18, 2008 at 10:43 PM

Art is an act of intention to express or communicate. It is an intellectual activity. Artists share their world throughout their artwork to the audience in the hope that they will be understood.

One of the things I've never thought of in my whole life is: to see a painting, you need to have the knowledge of what a painting is.

Also, Dr. Jacques Delaruelle, a philosopher told us art will never be as popular as the media because to understand art it requires thinking. The media however, does the thinking for you- but you won't always remember it. You will always remember artworks because you have put thought into it.

This whole HSC Intensive Critical/Historical Study course was held at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. For the past 4 days- Bryan, Khanh & I have headed back and fourth for this course. It's also a 1 unit non-UAI course. I thought this course was excellent- I've never had to think so deep about art itself, institutions and art critics. I also totally see art in such a different view. I now intend to make a new deviantart account (because you can't delete accounts) and make art with the intention to express and communicate. This whole art stuff is getting to me. Oh yeah, and this course isn't over just yet- there's another 6 days to go but they're split up throughout the year.

Day One- Tuesday 15 July
We had to arrive at 9AM to the NAS- which means we caught the 7:34AM train. It was peak hour- so we stood up our whole way until Wynyard (where practically everyone got off). We had an introduction to the school from Lorraine Kypiotis- she was in charge of this whole course. There was about 200+ students all from different schools. There were 14 classes altogether- 4 drawing, 4 painting, 2 photography, 1 digital imaging, 2 ceramics, 1 theory. Yes, we were in the theory class. Our tutor/mentor was Elizabeth Little- she's the libarian at the NAS's library. When we got everything settled- our group (of 14) headed straight to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to see the Biennale. Jethro Lyne who works at the gallery took us around- he explained how the way things are set up in art galleries are on purpose, art history etc. He was a very good talker. After that, we had some free time to browse ourselves then we headed back to the NAS and had lunch.

For lunch, Bryan, Khanh & I headed to a local cafe. Bryan bought a steak sandwich. Khanh & I bought a chicken sandwich. I've never seen prices for sandwiches so high before. Bryan's sandwich was $20.50, the chicken sandwich was $13. But don't get me wrong, it tasted nice. But $13 is asking for too much. After lunch, we headed back to the school and had Lorraine Kypiotis explain our assesment tasks. She also touched up on art critics, newspaper articles and art history. Then after 4, we got to leave. We ate Hungry Jacks, then we left. Train was packed again.

I put up the contrast so you could actually see it. It's a walk in room.

This is so funky!

Welcome to Australia pilgrims!!!

Day Two- Wednesday 16 July
We were to meet up with the group at Pier 2/3 in Circular Quay for a ferry to go to Cockatoo Island to see the Biennale once again around 9:30AM. Once again, the train there was packed. We sat down- but we felt guilty... The ferry came about 10AM, oh yeah we had Leslie Rice as a guest to guide us around. Leslie is a former student at NAS, now he teaches there. I loved the setting of the exhibition- very historical. From what I saw, the island was for industrial purposes for sailors and the navy. I found the artworks great- except for the suggested 18+ ones. They were confronting and shocking.

We headed back to Circular Quay around 2PM. We headed to the Museum of Contemporary Art- to the Biennale once again. Khanh left because he had a performance for WYD. Everyone was tired tired tired, and our educator made us have to think so much it was dreadful. She let us off early about 3:30, so Bryan & I headed for some Maccas, tried looking for Jason to get freebies from WYD stores (but was unsuccessful) then we left to go home.

Bryan, Me & Khanh

Isn't this so sparkly?

COCKATOO ISLAND!!!

Walking in some creepy tunnel.

Amazing artwork, was drawn with the use of charcoal. That's what you call skill! Whoops, typo. self portrait (possesses some of the attributes of an artist)

Something you don't always see. I wonder if Australia has something like that.

Me, Bryan & Khanh. LOOK AT THE AMAZING SCENERY!!!

Day Three- Thursday 17 July
Our train came at 8:34, and there were actually seats. We sat next to these two pilgrims, they were from Canada, married for 37 years, have 3 children & 3 grandchildren. If I remember correctly- it was Wayne & Linda. They were so nice. They gave us gifts as well. When we arrived at NAS- first thing we had was a lecture from Dr. Jacques Delaruelle. He talked about art and idea. It was deeeeeeeep. Like I've never thought of these things before and he chucks it all before us within two hours. It was good though, but it was also confusing. After the talk- we headed to the NAS Stairwell Gallery. It wasn't huge, but it displays student works. There was also a historical exhibition in their Gallery- after soldiers came back from war they were offered to train at NAS. So their sketches, paintings, drawings were really olden days. They were awesome though.

After that, we had an early lunch. We ate Oportos, then Khanh & I went vintage shopping. After lunch we headed back, and had a talk from Steven Harvey. He's a painter, he also took us to his exhibition in a commercial gallery. I felt so privledged to meet him. After that, we headed back to the vintage shop to buy me those heels. Ahhhh, I got ripped off. But they're cute. I'll show you it in my next entry. Then Bryan & I headed to IKEA- IT WAS AWESOME!!! And then we went home.

These parrots are so pretty. They wanted us to feed them, but they didn't eat when we offered.

On the way to lunch.

Day Four- Friday 18 July
The whole day we had a lecture from Janet Rents. She talked about Art Critism and Art Practice. She was very very good. Totally energetic and nobody fell asleep. We had two breaks. So I guess at morning tea- we (most of the group) sat in the canteen and ate. At lunch we (most of the group again) spent most of the time deciding where to eat. So then we finally decided Hungry Jacks. I ate a small cheeseburger meal. Sometimes I prefer Hungry Jacks' cheeseburgers over McDonald's because it just seems more plain... but bigger. I don't know. We arrived back about 10 minutes late, whoops. Then we finally had something practical to do!!! Janet gave us a metaphor and we had half an hour to create 4 artworks with 'On the Edge'. Then it was time to say goodbye- the next time we'd see each other is September 6. Take care guys! :)

Khanh & I. He had the exact same pose for 4 consecutive shots.

My artwork- "On the Edge". We had limited materials- red paint, match sticks, newspaper, cardboard box, glue and string.

Next entry I will show: my clean room and recent purchases. Oh, and Darithy, Jessica & Tiffany's birthday bash. Argh, school comes back on Tuesday. I'm not prepared. Blah.

11 Degrees Celcius

| Posted on Thursday, Jul. 10, 2008 at 8:58 PM

Okay, there were many days I told myself I was going to blog. But laziness just overtook me every time, so this is a very delayed but detailed-ish entry. I'll blog back to Friday the 4th July.

Friday 4th July-
It was the last day of school, I volunteered to tour the American students around our school. The thing that was cool is that we got to pick our American buddy- even though there were 24 of them and 50 something of us. We shared. So a group of 5 (Bryan, Cathy, Seilla, Vee & I) made buddies with this Mexican guy called Sergio Haro. He's 18, pretty short for his age. I also remember that Cathy, Vee & I said their mentor/official tour guide was cute. He was cute, he was Singaporean and Malaysian but he looked more Euro to me. We got to take Sergio around the school- he seemed fascinated I guess. We asked him like hundreds and hundreds of questions about America- we also asked which social group we fit into. LOL, Vee & I were hoping to be in the 'Cheerleaders' so we could hook up with the Jocks. But he didn't really answer it properly- he said that there's nerdy Asians, cool Asians and so fourth. Basically, he listed all the groups.

At recess- we told Sergio to stay away from Margarita because she's sexually active and might want to do something with him. AHAHAHA. Slack, I know... BUT SHE KEPT STEALING SERGIO OFF US. You know we love you Margarita! I tried finishing off my art assessment as the boys taught Sergio how to play rugby. After that we had to take Sergio to our English class- we watched Summer Heights High. After English- it was Lunch. I had to hand in my art assessment- STRESS FREE!!! For now, that is. After that we got free food- because we took the Americans around. Then we had a musical showcase for them- it was HECTIC!!! The atmosphere was so lovable- and so were the performances.

Then it was time to say goodbye to the Americans. And school was out.

My official body of work:

When seasons change birds migrate to a warmer place that is suitable. They leave their homes behind, it's a difficult thing to do. So do we- we leave things in life behind, we still carry on no matter the circumstances.
(sorry for bad image quality- it's the only picture I took of it before I handed it in)

Saturday 5th July-
On Saturday, Vee & I headed to DFO because she needed to buy outfits and such. Yes there were sales- but I didn't buy much because I was tight on money. And Vee grabbed all the pretty stuff before me. She also made me try on these high waist jeans that made me look twice as short- and the fly was broken so I couldn't do up the buttons. Argh. But the jeans were $5, like you'll ever see that price again!!!

My grabs:

Dotti dress- $69.95 reduced to $9.95

Dotti Cherry Tan belt- $19.95 reduced to $9.95

White & Grey Bridget shoes- $60 reduced to $30

Sunday 6th July-
I had work from 9AM-4PM. It went by fast. Mercedes and Dili were trying to find good looking guys for me amongst the customers. And to _______: YOU'RE DOGGGGGGG, bitch!!! I went home and showered and tried to clean my room. Lol, a very unproductive day.

Monday 7th July-
I had work from 12PM-5PM. After work, I showered and got ready for Khuyen's 16th birthday. When I went there- it seemed like the party left. I remember Darithy, Dili, Melain, Melissa & I were sitting down and chit chatting. Then Khuyen cut his cake- I had 3 slices, but nobody has to know. Then came out the alcohol- and it involved a lot of underage drinking. Damnit, I was bright red after like 2 bottles. But whatever, the night was fun. Then people left and such, Robert & I decided to call it quits and walked home together around 12AM. Well, we walked halfway together because I didn't want him to walk me home. I was shitting myself, I was so paranoid I wanted to walk on the road because there was more lighting. Then this freaking dog half my sized popped out of nowhere and scared the living shits out of me, wagged its tail and walked right pass me.

Pictures:

I'm not in denial. My camera is full of paparazzi shots of me.

This is Lang, she's a hectic bitch. We both believe life is so much better without boys- we're totally too good for them! Oh, and she's twice as cranky as Dili (identical older sister)

Thanh, Vee & Jan (with his crutches)
Nice to see you're well.

Bryan (Nobbiyuki with glasses), Kevin, Vee, Khuyen, Tiffany, Thanh & Michael standing in the hallway.

Tuesday 8th July-
Bryan & I decided to go shopping- to use my Westfield's $100 gift voucher from work!!! Firstly, we went to Fairfield McDonald's to give Darithy money for her birthday party. We headed to Parramatta and I decided to be really picky with what I buy- because Rob (my manager) told me to spend it wisely. Bryan also printed out photos. And oh my god, that hazelnut gelato was heaven. We also bumped into Cathy and her friend Vinh a few times. There were also lots and lots of yummy guys at Parra.

My grabs:

Floral Dress from Ally- $34.95

Tan boots- $50 reduced to $45

Bardot top- $69.95 reduced to $16.95

Ahhhhh, and that's my gift voucher gone. $100 seems like nothing, damnit.

Wednesday 9th July-
I headed to Maccas to get my payslips and such to report to Centrelink. Then I headed home and cleaned my room because Melissa was supposed to sleep over because we were going to Submission tonight. My mum changed my bed sheets to yellow- YAY! I'll introduce my room to you in my next entry. Mel came eventually and so did Dili. We headed to Cabramatta station to meet up with Vee around 4 because we had to help her pick which eye lashes she should buy. After that we headed to the city- ate at Maccas. Headed to Submission to sell our spare tickets and line-up. It took forever to get in. Probably like an hour. Honestly, I thought Submission was shit. It's way too small if you consider the amount of people there. And Melissa is a funny bitch- I'll spare the details.

But there was this bitch that shoved me on the dance floor- probably because I kept knocking her, but come on not like I wasn't get knocked by everyone else. And me out of all people... because I don't look like the type to start shit. And she didn't have to chuck me a dirty- dumb bitch.

Anyways.. after we left we headed to Maccas for another round of food because we were hungry. Then we headed home, Jennifer was still at it... crazy girl. And Dili & I shared a taxi home.

This is what I wore to Subbies. Curse everyone who stepped on my lovely boots.

Thursday 10th July-
Today was a short day, I just headed to Kathy Ly's house to get my Economics book off her. Because she stole it off me. But we had a decent catch up and we watched America's "So You Think You Can Dance" season 4 on Youtube. Wooo! It was also freezing cold.

I'm loving my boots!!! It's probably my favourite purchase in a while.

P.S. I want more shoes...
P.P.S. I wish money would fall from the sky.
P.P.P.S. Why's it so damn cold?!?!?!
